Many have pointed to the influx of celebrities like Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross or Ashton and Demi as the moment Twitter came of age.
Well it seems we've entered a new dawn.
An advert for a Sr. Manager – Emerging Media Marketing Job at US company Best Buy asked for at least 250 followers on Twitter under its preferred qualification critieria. Thanks to blogger Neville Hobson for this one
Ok yes it's for a media marketing job but it does point to the wider adoption of the way Twitter is being used and valued by the business community.
While I'm all for championing Twitter (ask anyone unfortunate enough to sit next to me in office) I have to question why it's just the number Best Buy focuses on rather than the quality of followers. Being a cynic, you'd have thought that one year of active blogging would give you more than 250 followers.

Best Buy seem to be missing the point. I currently have 267 followers, but I reckon that at least 1/3 of them are spam/web-bot accounts (which I obviously don't follow back), unused accounts (where someone has joined, followed a load of people then never come back) and auto-following celeb accounts.
Surely they'd be better off with a candidate who has 100 useful & relevant followers?

It's rather a crude way to (understandably) ensure the candidate was active on Twitter.
Perhaps simply asking applicants to include their Twitter name might be better. Then their profile could be assessed based on actual merit.
