Bill Gates: ‘Ain’t technology grand’

Bill Gates on the BBC website: "In almost every job now, people use software and work with information to enable their organisation to operate more effectively… if you look at how progress is made and where competitive advantage is created, there’s no doubt that the ability to use software tools effectively is critical to succeeding in today’s global knowledge economy."

It would be churlish to say ‘yeah, but you would say that wouldn’t you, because you sell software Mr Gates’ – because he’s absolutely spot on, of course.

Gates is on his final hurrah now as chairman of Microsoft, ahead of the big step down this summer and articles like this read very much like a man who’s outlining his legacy (lest we might have missed the impact him and his company have had on our working and personal lives).

It’s going to be very interesting to watch how the final six months of Gates’ tenure unfold – we can certainly expect retrospectives and analyses galore in the media (we’ll take that one as a given on editorial calendar).
