Move over Starbucks, McDonalds is extending its in-restaurant wi-fi coverage to 1,200 locations in the UK.
And what's more, it's going to be free. Well super size me!
It's still going to be McDonalds of course, but at least it's free.
The hope is that it will bring in a new breed of business users, though whether a demographic able and often inclined to pay for wi-fi access will suddenly develop a taste for burgers and the company of teenagers remains to be seen.
It could be a definite boom for PSP and Nintendo DS users though, who are probably more likely to frequent the Golden Arches. But even then, I wonder whether kids playing on their PSPs, making a small Coke last for hours is a little at odds with a philosophy of 'get 'em in, get 'em fed and get 'em out' which is surely the most profitable way to run a fast-food restaurant. (Though far be it from me to tell a $67bn company how to run its business).
